Settings for Final Cut Pro
Songster is configured in its Main Window. (There is no preferences window.) To switch Songster into Final Cut Pro mode click the FCP button at the bottom left of the window.

This is the main window in Final Cut Pro mode.
Assign Metadata to Bin Columns
Assign metadata items to FCP bin columns by selecting them from the appropriate popup menu.

Here the metadata item 'Artist' is being assigned to the 'MasterComment 1' column in FCP bins.
- Clip Name
- The name of the clip shown in FCP can be derived from either the Song Name or the File Name metadata entries of the audio file. While they are usualy the same, this may not always be the case. Note that if one of these choices is selected only the other one will be available to be assigned to a bin column.
- Custom Note
- Arbitrary text can be assigned to a FCP bin column. The menu item to select is Custom Note. Enter the text you would like to see in the bin in the Custom Note text field.
- Time Stamp
- To have the current date and time entered into a bin column, select the menu item Time Stamp.
- Preset Volume
- The imported audio clips will have their volume set to the value set with either the vertical slider or the numerical field. Both are on the right of the main window.
More Settings
To reveal more settings, click the small disclosure triangle in the bottom left of the main window:

The window expands to show more settings:

- Send to Final Cut Pro
The XML information generated from the audio file metadata is automatically sent directly to FCP. FCP must be running on the same computer, and at least oneproject must be open. That project needs to have a corresponding file name on disk. This means, the project has to have been saved to disk at some point in the past - it does not have to have been saved in its surrent state, but it cannot be a new project that has never been saved yet.
- Folder -> Bin
- For each audio file the enclosing folder's name is used as the name for the bin the new clip will be placed in. If a bin with that folder's name already exists it will be used.
- Destination Bin Name
- Set a name for the bin the clips will be put into. If a bin with that name already exists it will be used, provided you are using FCP version 7.x.
- Save XML File
- Save an XML file containing the audio file's metadata, as well as pointers to the audio files themselves. This is useful when FCP is not running on the same machine. At least one of thecheckboxes Send to FCP and Save to XML File has to be checked.
Even More Settings
To reveal even more settings, click the second small disclosure triangle in the bottom left of the main window. It is only visible when the first triangle points down.

- Frame Rate
Audio clips in FCP have a frame rate, despite the absence of actual frames in the media files. Set the frame rate with this popup button.
- Poll Final Cut Pro
- Attempt to read the 'native' frame rate of the currently front-most open project in Final Cut Pro, and auto-set the Frame Rate accordingly.
